Spring?

I use Google’s personalized start page as my homepage (http://www.google.com/ig) which allows you to get up to date feeds from a number of sources. I use it to check headlines of my favorite sites as well as to check the weather and what-not. Imagine my surprise when this popped up this afternoon:

WTF?

In reality, it must be nearly 75 degrees outside and completely clear.

Ahh The Joys of Spring

Pitchers and catchers report today, so I decided to commemorate the event with a few words from one of my favorite baseball movies. I still think Kevin Costner is a douchebag, but “Field of Dreams” is a great baseball movie. Right up there with “The Natural”.

“Ray, people will come Ray. They’ll come to Iowa for reasons they can’t even fathom. They’ll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they’re doing it. They’ll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won’t mind if you look around, you’ll say. It’s only $20 per person. They’ll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they’ll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They’ll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they’ll watch the game and it’ll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they’ll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it’s a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh… people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.”

Prince was the f**king man at the halftime show. How can someone who appears to be so feminine be such a badass? Just an amazing performance and quite possibly the best SB halftime show I’ve ever witnessed.

(Prince looks a little bit Tupac and a little bit WWII female bomb builder, doesn’t he?)

And on the 9th day…
Today will mark the 9th consecutive day that I will be working out in the gym. I guess you could say that I’m addicted to it now, but I wouldn’t really say that I enjoy it. I haven’t really seen the results I’m looking for (decreased body fat %) so I’ll keep at it until I do. My original goal was to make it a full week going everyday. Now that I’ve accomplished that, I’m going for two weeks. Who knows how long I can keep this up though, my legs are tired. I do 45 minutes on the elliptical, never going below level 10 and ramping up to level 15 for 2 to 5 minute intervals (depending on how long I can go). Going back to level 10 makes it feel like a little bit of a break. I also try to stay at around 70 RPMs which usually leads to about 4.5 miles in 45 minutes and burning anywhere from 700 to 800 calories.

Hopefully I’ll begin to see some good results soon and I can talk Lindsey into not making that extra batch of Rice Krispy treats (my all-time fave).
